What if ...a BATMAN movie were released on the early 40`s?
Mixing some modern advertising TECHNIQUES and a CLASIC art deco visual style I created this promotional poster for a fictional movie.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how did you achieve the grainy effect? I've been trying to work in this style and any advice would be greatly appreciated

sure, in Photoshop CS3 and onwards there is a (artistic) filter called film grain. you can play with the values to achieve the desired effect.

Well, there WERE Batman movie serials in the 1940s... but I don't think they had this kind of very cool poster art.

That would be a GREAT concept! Especially if they shot it like one of those film noir-style mystery films that showed up everywhere in the forties! Just take Batman seriously, give him a serious budget, found a way to do his suit justice, and they could've pulled it off! I'm a little skeptical about WHO would play Batman and the rest of his villains, but hey, you can figure that out for yourself! :)

This is great! Did you use illustrator for this? How did you get the gradients to be grainy like that?

Thank you and Yes , It´s done in ILLUSTRATOR ...after I used the gradient color in swatches.. and combining some colors..I add the film grain filter on PHOTOSHOP! ;)

great deco styling, you seem to like :batman: (as do i) so it may interest you to watch one of the things/movies that inspired Bob Cane, it is a 1924 silent film called 'THE BAT', it is full of art deco design and a great bat costume, (also one of my favorite films) :jawdrop: if you can't find anything to do a poster for, i would suggest this film, be watching you!

Actually, a series of Batman movie serials was released in 1943: [link] Though I don't think that poster is the one they used originally. They did use this one [link] though.

Apart from that, this is a great piece of work, which suits the character and the period perfectly.

Great styling and I liked the fact that you actually paid attention to details like the grainy, brush like consistency of the colors have a very nice slightly desaturated quality to them. Most folks just do this in illustrator with a gradient mesh and call it a day.

Very very nice.
