ZEUS art deco by rodolforever ZEUS art deco by rodolforever
Zeus was the youngest son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea. When he was born, his father Cronus intended to swallow him as he had all of Zeus's siblings: Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera. But Rhea hid the newborn in a cave on Mount Dicte in Crete.

When he had grown up, Zeus caused Cronus to vomit up his sisters and brothers, and these gods joined him in fighting to wrest control of the universe from the Titans and Cronus, their king. Having vanquished his father and the other Titans, Zeus imprisoned most of them in the underworld of Tartarus.

Then he and his brothers Poseidon and Hades divided up creation. Poseidon received the sea as his domain, Hades got the Underworld and Zeus took the sky. Zeus also was accorded supreme authority on earth and on Mount Olympus.

hi Rodolfo,I am brand new in graphic design and graphics in general. I am student and one of the assigments is to make a art deco poster. I really love and admire your work! Have robin as a desktop! I wonder if you can give me tips to achieve such awesome results... I have an illustrator design already made, but dont know how to add gradients in illustrator. How should I export to photoshop to add gradients? Thank you so much! A big fan from Ireland!

Hello franlpgc

First of all THANK you very much for your comments , I`m flattered .let`s start: The look of art deco as you can see is very stylized images with lots of straigt lines and pronounced circles, I suggest you to make the drawings as simple as posible because the impact of these posters rely more on the colors and textures. Use a lot of perspective shots because that`s what also gives the aspect of an epic pose. The main idea is to make the characters in the posters dynamic...but also very solid.

For the finishing or the technique itself ...it`s quite simple but also you have to experiment a lot the achieve that look.

First I trace a sketch in ILLUSTRATOR ...I dont use outlines in my designs there are limited only by the colors...I use a lot of gradients to create volume and light sources...About the colors , well the vintage look is achieved by using less but brighter colors but stay to a palette pattern). after completing the design...you export it as .jpg...and then open it on PHOTOSHOP...there you can play with the PHOTO FILTERS ..then comes the tricky part: USE THE ARTISTIC FILTER- FILM GRAIN...and adjust it at your preference you will notice how the lighting in the image changes drastically...then you can play with the LEVELS (at image menu) AND/OR duplicate the layer and reduce the opacity to the half ..using the MULTIPLY or the Lighting mode...(or any mode hehehe)

remember DESIGN SHOULD BE FUN!

Well I hoped I`d help
I`m looking forward to se your own designs
GOOD LUCK

THANks for writting :)

good to see you thematically branching out
this one looks gorgeous
the color scheme is very simple, yet powerful
and Zeus's design is amazing
the only thing I'm not too fond of is the underline in title. It just takes attention away from everything else.
I'm eager to see next ones

Friggin' badass! I love the idea of a character per month. It's works perfectly! If you're taking suggestions, I would say Hades for October and Aphrodite or Eros (or both, mother and son!) for February. :D

I look forward to the monsters! I'd love to see your take on Hermes, too!

Awesome work, man! I'll stop being a geek now... :B
